Study Involves:

We are currently looking for people to participate in a research study testing a new app that teaches mindfulness skills to help manage depression symptoms. The program lasts for 12 weeks.  People who are currently experiencing depression symptoms may qualify. Your participation in this study would involve a telephone assessment to determine if you qualify and two in-person assessments (one at the beginning and one at the end of the study). The assessments will take place at the Palo Alto VA. This study compensates up to $120 for participation.”

You may qualify if:

  • You are experiencing depression or symptoms of depression.

  • You are at least 40 years old.

  • You own a smartphone.

  • You live in California.

  • You speak English.

  • You have not received a diagnosis of Bipolar Disorder.

Novel Treatment for Anxiety

Study involves: 

 

A 3-hour assessment before and after 12-week study. 

 

Participate in treatment for anxiety delivered via DVD video that you can watch at home or on the web. 

 

Eligible participants:

  • Veterans aged 60 years or older with anxiety or worries. 

 

Compensation: Up to $140 total ($60 per visit, $10 for each of 2 phone check-ins).

DVD-based Psychological Treatment for Anxiety

The goal of this study is to learn more about using a DVD-based intervention to decrease anxiety symptoms and increase activity in older Veterans.

 

Over the 12-week study, participants will watch DVD videos on their own and will discuss their progress during weekly calls with a coach.  

 

As part of the study participants will complete two 3-hour initial assessments. The final assessment includes an interview in which participants are invited to provide feedback on the intervention. 

If needed, portable DVD players are available for Veterans to take home and use during the duration of the study.

 

Compensation: Up to $140 for the study – ($60 for each in person assessment and $10 for each phone check-in).
